in trouble-
A- Most powerful countries in Europe but by the 1700’s it was getting weaker.
B- Unfair tax system- peasants and middle class- heavy taxes- nobles almost nothing
C- Nobles 1% of population but owned 1/3 of the land in France
D- Louis XVI was the king of France and also was weak, Estates- general represented 3 estates into French society that was divided.
* First estate was made up of church officials
* Second estate made up nobles
* Third estate was made up of 98% of French people
II-
New and old privileges-
A- King Louis gathering troops near the meeting and the people of Paris were outraged.
B- On July 14, 1789 an angry mob attacked the prison
C- The national assembly took away all privileges from churches and nobles.
D- Many nobles had to sell their land to peasants at cheap prices.
E- In August 1789, the national assembly adopted a declaration of the rights of man and citizen
F- Other rulers were frightened by the French Revolution.
G- French were blamed King Louis and Queen Antoinette
